The Mid-Ohio School Instructors Set to Compete for National Championships at SCCA® Runoffs

Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
News
21 September 2017

LEXINGTON, Ohio (September 21, 2017) - Five instructors from The Mid-Ohio School  are wrapping up final preparations for next week's SCCA® National Championship Runoffs®, September 25-October 1, taking place for the first time at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

An annual motorsports tradition for amateur road racing which dates back to 1964, nearly 1,000 drivers from across the country will battle on the 14-turn, 2.592-mile road course using part of the famed oval in 19-lap winner-takes-all races.

The Mid-Ohio School instructors helped many competitors claim victories, pole positions and track records at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course where the event was held last year.  Now these instructors sole focus will be to claim a title of their own.  The five instructors entered to compete include (name, hometown, SCCA class and car):

Adam Andretti (Elgin, Ill.), Grand Touring 2, #44 2017 Chevrolet Camaro

Max Gee (Mansfield, Ohio), Super Touring Under, #22 1993 Honda Prelude

Sam Halkias (Westerville, Ohio), E Productions, #83 1975 Triumph TR6

Aaron Quine (Medina, Ohio), Grand Touring 2, #69 2017 Chevrolet Camaro TA2

John Schmitt (Sunbury, Ohio), Super Touring Under, #92 2006 Honda Civic and

Super Touring Lite, #62 Honda Prelude

In SportsCar magazine's October 2017 edition, Max Gee is considered as one of the favorites in the annual "Who Will Win?" prognostication to finish on the podium.  This will be Max's second consecutive Runoffs appearance.

"I'm excited for another shot at capturing an SCCA National Championship.  It's an awesome opportunity to race at Indianapolis for the first time," said Max Gee.  "We had a strong week leading up to the race last year at Mid-Ohio, but the race didn't turn out as we had expected.  We've learned a lot about the car since last year, and we are looking for redemption next week and representing The Mid-Ohio School well."

Rusty Bell, a long-time voice of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course's announcing team, is also entered to compete at Indianapolis.  The Galena, Ohio resident will compete in GT-Lite in his #88 1995 Toyota Tercel.  Four days of qualifying begin Sept. 25, followed by three days of racing Sept. 29, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.  Follow the event coverage and results all week at www.scca.com/runoffs.
